Embroidery and Pompoms

This week’s workshops took a lovely but unplanned turn.

We’d originally planned a session focused on embroidery. The hoops and yarn were all laid out, ready to go. But as people began to arrive and the conversation started to flow, the topic of pom pom making came up. A few people were curious, someone asked how to do it, and just like that, the session shifted direction.

It was a great reminder of what these workshops are really about: slowing down, staying present, and allowing space for creativity to unfold naturally. In this case, that meant a detour into pom pom making!

There was no pressure to make anything specific. Some people stitched their pom poms into their embroidery cloths, others just kept making more and experimenting with colours, textures, and shapes. By the end of the session, we had a colourful collection of soft, tactile creations, and a table full of relaxed, chatty people, tea in hand, completely absorbed in the making process.

The feedback was lovely. Many people said how calming they found the session, and quite a few mentioned it was their favourite week so far. That really stood out as it showed that what people value most is the time spent making and connecting, rather than the end result. And that’s exactly what these workshops are here for.

Next week, we’ll pick up where we left off, whether that’s more embroidery, more pom poms, or something else entirely. The plan is loose, and that’s kind of the point.

All we needed was some yarn, a relaxed space, and a group of people up for trying something new.
